Evil Weevil!!!

So if you know me, you know I am quite the fan of popcorn....um um....I love it! Seriously!

So, needless to say, I have had some experience buying popcorn!

Two weeks ago, I bought my popcorn in a different store...one I know and trust of course...but yet last week when I opened up the bag and poured the kernels into my Tupperware, I noticed something...

Little tiny holes on the popcorn kernels...odd...I think to my self...

As I keep pouring, I am moving the kernels around to make space for each one of them in the container and I come across 1 little black bug...

Humm...okay...what's one black bug...I kill it and continue to pour...

Another black bug...

Then another...

As I start to kill these bugs (which by the way look like tiny versions of triceratops with some weird points on their heads I realize that those little holes in my popcorn kernels aren't just there on accident...

In fact, as I moved the popcorn more and more, I realized each kernel was home to a little bug and so the more bugs I smashed, more and more kept pouring out.

I had never, in all my life thought that bugs could live in popcorn kernels...so last night I decided to do a little Internet detective work to uncover the truth about my unwanted friends...

Now...in case you want to know...typing in bugs in popcorn kernels doesn't work very well...but after about 20 minutes of persistence I found what I was looking for...my unwanted friends are weevils and apparently their favorite foods are popcorn and rice. Who knew!

I think the term "evil weevil" works for me!

I am not a very good "capture it on film" kinda girl...but i found a picture of these evil weevils during my Internet search...if you ever see one in your popcorn...know that all his friends are in hiding in the other kernels, throw away the bag, and start over!

Just some advice from someone who now has experience in the subject!

wow, in all my years of making popcorn i had never come across a bug. They other day, poured popcorn from my tupperware container and after popping it, noticed bugs crawling over the lid (I was going to make more so hadn't put it away). Mine too were all throughout the kernels and some kernels were half gone. These look different then the weevils in rice, BUT, loved your description as a triceratops! That SO is what they look like. Thanks for doing the research for me :)

I am literally bugging out right now! I just made a batch of popcorn in my commercial-size machine. When I went to pour in the rest of the bag of kernels, I noticed these tiny pellets. At first I thought it was shavings of popcorn seed. Then I found what appeared to be a webby thing. I looked at another unopened bag of kernels and noticed whole bugs inside. They look just like the ones in your picture. I'm seriously freaking out right now. I feel like I have bugs crawling all over me.

As I was eating a bag of microwaved popcorn, I noticed something on my hand I used to grab the popcorn with. I thought it was part of the popcorn but, upon closer investigation,I realized it was a tiny dead bug. I was so grossed out. I know I ate some of his body parts and/or his friends. So, I looked up bugs in popcorn, and viola, bugs are in popcorn. I Never knew that. And all I can think of was all of the possible bugs I ate in popcorn before. I have bug phobias. No more popcorn for me. Any I have left, I'll pop and feed to the seagulls around here. That ruined popcorn for me forever.
